The eradication of poverty, an NGO "buzzword," is everyone's ultimate goal. Everyone wants to help people to support themselves, to have "gone fishing."
Why is it that we are so easy to reject correction or warning? Why are we so sure that our own ways are the best?
It's now my turn to serve the world around me with that same unchanging love, even if to them I'm mnyamuhanga.
If we excuse ourselves from serving because the need is greater than our capacity, our excuse is a poor one. While we might not be able to do everything, we can do something.
Just yesterday after Jack Sparrow made his swift exit, I went out the front door to see if I could catch another glimpse of him. Maybe he would stay around the house?
It's hard to live out our convictions in an increasingly hostile world - and I'm not only talking about the hostility we see on the news or internet. In our personal, day-to-day lives it's not uncommon to come face-to-face with intense rejection any time we choose to go against the grain of what is "the norm."
So what is it that keeps me going when giving up sorely tempts me to walk away? I can answer this question with a question: What is there to go back to?
Wherever you are as you read this, I pray your eyes be open to the least of those that surround you in your world. I don’t have long, drawn-out answers to explain away the pain of this world. This world we live in is waiting for its redemption from the grasp of sin, until that day God’s answer to suffering lies in the hands of us, His children.
